Stop The Presses!

I am in shock, absolute shock!

Dr. B sent out a special mailing this month announcing Hpathy's latest poll question: "Do you participate in the Hpathy Quiz and what's your opinion of it?" I thought this was really nice of Dr. B because I had long been puzzled over the lack of participation by our readers. Was the quiz too hard? Was it too easy?

Well! I was not prepared for what ensued! Dozens of Quiz answers began pouring in! Did you see the Harry Potter movie where a storm of letters descended on the Potter residence, blanketing the whole house? Zooming in through the letter slot in the door, even pouring down the chimney?

That's what was happening to me-- one letter after another, in a never-ending cascade! By the time it was all through, 96 quiz answers had arrived! Before this, I was lucky to get 20!

I decided to look at the comments from the Poll. Here's a sampling:

"Quiz? What quiz?"

"I had no idea there was a quiz!"

"I never saw it before!"

"I thought it would be too hard."

I was shocked. There can be only one explanation: There must be a built-in presumption about anything that's at the bottom of the page--it must not be important!

Other comments surprised me: "Why vote in the quiz when you never give the answer!?"

Never give the answer? The answer is always in the next issue. Look for, "Revisiting: [title of last month's quiz]".

Others complained that they wanted the answer emailed to them directly. I'll tell you the reason I don't do that: because it's not a matter of just revealing the answer, that's not going to help you! The reason for the quiz section is to TEACH homeopathy! We are not JUST having fun in the Quiz section, even though it does seem that way most of the time! I try my best to explain WHY Pulsatilla or Lycopodium or Tarentula or Ignatia was the correct remedy, what the tell-tale signs were, what the "give-away" was in the case that led to the remedy choice. I've seen letters to the editor where readers asked, "Why don't you teach homeopathy?" and I think, "Aren't these people reading the quiz?"

Well, clearly, many people are, and here are some of their comments from the poll:

"Perhaps this is the most interesting feature in the ezine."--A. Rahman

"My favorite part of the newsletter."--Elizabeth Carson

"I think it is excellent!"--Vivien Newrick

"A real gem."--H. Saidi

"Elaine's quiz is invariably the first item I turn to each month."--Brooks

"I enjoy the quiz each month."--Elisabeth

"The quiz is extremely educational."--Carol

"Quiz section is the most interesting part of the magazine as far as I am concerned."--Sujaya Prabha

"I love the way it is presented."--A. Kanksha

Thanks to Dr. B's unexpected mid-month quiz reminder, it looks like we're starting over with ninety-six new members of our quiz family! Dear new family members, this song is for you: "Stoned Love" by The Supremes--expressing Hpathy's love and appreciation for you, plus our honored guest of the month Dr. A.U. Ramakrishnan and all our thousands of readers!

Sincerely,

Elaine Lewis
