    Posted: 24 June 04 at 00:56

I'm working in a group with other students on a very specific topic which is normally not the issue for Germany. However, we have a guy in our group who is frequently travelling to India and who is in search of the homeopathic treatment of a cobra bite.

Does anybody have experience with cobra bites. Possibly cases where a homeopathic remedy saved the victim from death.

Thanks for any comments.

Hello Tofu 33, Treating/Curing a cobra bite is not merely a matter of  giving one or more homeopathic remedies( I`ll mention them later), but also a complete and proper first aid treatment.Sometimes a cobra doesn`t bite, but transfer the poison by spitting. A cobra (member of the Elapiden group) bite is successful in poisoning the victim in 50 % of the bites and 20% is lethal because of the absence of adequate treatment between 5-20 hours. Most bites of the Elapiden (cobras, mambas, kraits etc.) don`t show poisonous phenomena on the spot/place where the snake bit his victim, but there is a number of cobras, bites of which cause swelling and gangrene. General symptoms are different forms of paralysis (also facial) and breathing problems.

I have to treat some (animal) patients meanwhile, but each time I have some free moments I`ll continue this post, since there`s a lot of explaining left !

to be continued.

Continuation Cobra bite,

Another member of the Elapiden group is the Coral snake (Harlequin snake), bites of which give diagnostic problems because the venom teeth are so fine (small) that bites/imprints are difficult to spot.

Basically speaking, the bite of any poisonous snake, whether this is a cobra or not, should be treated in the same manner.

All snake bites (poisonous or not !) should be properly cleaned with a mild disinfectant(antiseptic) such as rose water.

Most bites will occur on the limbs and the whole affected body part should be firmly bandaged and should be immobilized with this.

This will prevent the poison from being spread ! Lancing (cutting into) and sucking out the wound is nowadays considered to be ineffective and potentially dangerous and shouldn`t be applied ! Applying a tourniquet should also be avoided, because this should be done by an expert only! E.g. a medical expert.

In case of a bite in the head or chest a pressure bandage should be applied and if possible an extra tight bandage as well.

Of course it goes without saying that medical help should be sent for as fast as possible.

To use the right antidote it is necessary to know the identity of the venomous snake involved !!! Sometimes it is even necessary to catch the snake or a similar one to identify it.

In Africa the spitting cobra is able to spit its victim in the eyes from a distance of about 3 metres (3-4 yards) with great precision ! This causes a lot of pain, sometimes even blindness! So it`s very important to rinse/wash the eyes with the cleanest possible water in order to remove the snake venom !

to be continued.

Continuation of Cobra bite. Homeopathic treatment of venomous/poisonous snake bites.

Unfortunately I have no cases available where victims were saved by homeopathic remedies.

In addition to the steps I mentioned earlier, an Internal homeopathic treatment should be started in all cases of supposed or actual poisoning !

Extreme unrest/agitation of the patient can increase the spreading  of the poison, so we have to take care of this first of all.

We give: Aconite/Aconitum 30c and /or Bach Rescue Remedy. The complimentary doses can, each quarter, be given between the doses of the other indicated remedies.

Then we give: Ledum 30c

A few minutes after the remedies mentioned above, a dose of the indicated homeopathic antidote can be given. There are (world wide) about 50  snake poison antidotes.

The antidote should be applied every 15 minutes, also when there are no visible symptoms of poisoning and should be continued for at least 10 hours ! In case of (distinct) symptoms continue till recovery !

The remedies can be combined with any convential treatment !

So if you travel to a any particular part of the world, where poisonous snakes are present, always check where antidotes are available !  Regards, Wim.

Yes, I can understand that ! Perhaps the most sensible thing to do in these kind of emergencies is to have both convential and hom. treatment to keep on the safe side !

You could also try a Google search: Type: homeopathic cases of poisonous snake bites

What I told you about this subject is not to be found on the internet !

Many years ago I lived in the tropical country of New Guinea. There are plenty of snakes there !

Somebody asked (by e-mail) to tell a little more about the antidotes. (She reads English, but isn`t able to write proper English on the forum).

The antidotes( made of snake venom) I referred to are e.g. Lachesis muta 30c, Naja nivea 30c, Bothrops atrox 30c, Crotalus viridus 30c etc. about 50 in all.

However these remedies are not always available in every country. That`s why the homeopathic antidote/remedy TOXICASERPENTIUM 30c was made, consisting of a mixture of snake venoms/poisons. However, this remedy is not always of the same concoction in every part of the world !!!

So there is a different Toxicaserpentium 30c for the following parts of the world: USA/Canada,   Mexico/Central America,   South America,  Africa,   Middle East,   South East Asia,  Far East, Australia/Pacific Islands  and Europe.

So each Toxicaserpentium 30c contains a mixture of snake venoms of snakes to be found in that part of the world ! (Always check label on bottle etc.)

Although it is also possible to treat a snake bite with a homeopathic potency of the concerning snake, the Toxicaserpentium 30c is usually to be preferred, because then no mistakes in identifying the snake can be made ! Also you needn`t take all kinds of antidotes with you on your journey !

When ordering the Toxicaserpentium always mention the right part of the world you will travel in and to.

For bitten patients with breathing difficulties give Carbo vegetabilis 30c as well. !

Anyone who needs the Toxicaserpentium 30c can always ask me which concoction is necessary for any particular part of the world.

Hey I ve read somewhere in Clarke MM of some root that natives chew when bitten by snakes. And a case too where the chewed root is applied to the wound of the snake bite and within mins the pain is gone, and I remember that the root is to be chewed and applied for several hours...! Well.  Doesn't anyone else remember ?

Ill be back with it soon...! I have to go through MM.

Hello !  Yes, that`s very well possible ! There are many plants, more than 50 in fact, which can be used as antidotes or other injuries caused by snake bites, depending on the countries(geographical use/application) where they grow. They are used either internally or externally. It is of course extremely difficult to indicate the dose, the effectiveness and the safety !

In Southern America e.g. Aralia spinosa etc. In Northern America e.g.Euphorbia polycarpa etc. In Mexico e.g Ipomoea aborescens etc. In Costa Rica e.g Piper medium. In Brazil e.g. Simarouba versicolor etc. In Yacatan/ Venezuela e.g. Aristolochia maxima etc. etc. etc.

The roots, the bark, the seeds, the fruits, the whole plant, the resin, the buds, the leaves etc. are used.

Sometimes the root is chewed !

And.....in India and Pakistan the bark of the Wrightia tomentosa is used ! Or in East India the leaves of the Uraria picta is used ! And from Indonesia to India the black pepper of Rhaphidophora pertusa is used, etc. etc.

Also the cedar, the Simaba cedron in Panama is well known, because the seeds of this cedar can neutralize snake bites if they are chewed immediately after a bite !

Also lizards can bite ! But fortunately of the approx. 3000 different species only two of them are poisonous species !

And of course don`t forget the leeches, the spiders, the scorpions, the centipedes and the marine animals !

Nice to read a balanced & informative write up.

Wim, based on your experience, what would you say, how do the modern anti venom treatments compare to the homeopathic option in case of venomous snake bites.

Don't take life too seriously, it ain't permanent:)

Tofu,

I am sure that you must be aware of the modern anti venoms and how they save lives. I can personally testify a record of over 5000 or so lives saved from snake bites in 30 years because of the use of these anti venoms in our company clinic. Our company used to do this treatment free of cost.

In the absence of any cured cases history of homeopathic treatments for snake bites, I think it would be reasonable that you explore the anti venoms option and rely on tried & tested stuff.

Cobra bites is too serious a situation to leave even the slightest bit to chance of whether the chosen remedy is right or not.

Don't take life too seriously, it ain't permanent:)
