Topic: Hoof rot Plus other stuff Posted: 03 Nov. 06 at 16:26 |
|
I have a buck who has hoof rot. He is now holding his right foot
off the ground and hopping around. I have been using
conventional hoof rot treatments but the last thing I want to do
is use any more antibiotics with this guy. He has had a lot of
antibiotics in his short life . I had to give him a whole lot of it
because he also has a hole in his head where we removed a
horn(he is a show goat) ... it left a large hole in his head and
then his sinus got infected. He still has smelly white pus but he
is so much better than he was.
thanks let me know

Hi Carlene,
The remedies you can`t obtain in your vicinity can be ordered online from Helios UK or Ainsworths UK.
This goat should get proper homeopathic treatment a.s.a.p. !
Remedies shouldn`t be given together at the same time but with some time in between (10-20 minutes).
I`ll give a prescription which covers both disorders !
Foot rot is a condition caused by an organism called Fusiformis Nodosus which contaminates soil in damp or marshy areas. This problem is often seen in sheep, but can also affect goats.

Continuation :
The clinical signs are (slight) lameness, which is an early sign, and depending on conditions and virulence varying degrees of involvement are seen.
Severe cases manifest themselves by extreme lameness and a common sight is that we see the goat/sheep grazing by resting on its knees trying to avoid contact with the ground by the affected foot. The horn of the foot becomes soft and crumbly and gives off an unpleasant/offensive smell/odour. Sometimes this situation leads to loss of condition and in does it may lead to a fall in milk yield.

Continuation/Prescription :
The prescription protocol should be strictly followed !
Give Kreosotum 200c, one dose twice a week for 6 weeks. (To improve diseased horn and surrounding tissues)
Also give Hepar sulphuris 1M, one daily dose for 7 days. (To diminish/cure pain/infection)
After the week of Hepar sulph. 1M (don`t give them both at the same time !) : Give Silicea 200c, one dose twice a week for 6 weeks. (To build up hard healthy horn).
Also give Foot Rot Nosode (goat) 30c, one daily dose for 7 days.
For prevention: Give all your other goats this Foot Rot Nosode (goat) 30c at the beginning of fall (autumn) and again in the spring. Give one dose twice weekly for 6 weeks in both periods.
Good luck with the treatment !
Wim

I just want to thank you so very much William! I actually belong
to a homeopathic pharmacy here in my area but have had
difficulty getting over there and keeping my own head together
to know what I needed when I get there.
I will get these and if I cannot get one, I'll order from where you
said to order.
Blessings
and how do I thank you?

Dear William
How are you ? I wanted to discuss this buck again with the foot
rot. I have found all of the remedies except the nosode and
wondered if you could tell me how much money it would cost
me to get it from you. My herd is about 20 strong now so I
guess they would all need it. He (the buck) is doing o.k. and
not limping but I still am seeing pus from the hole in his head
where we removed the horn.
Blessings to you , Sir

Hello Carlene,
It would indeed be wise to give the nosode to all your goats. I don`t sell this nosode, but I`ll tell you what you can do best.
The nosode you need (Foot Rot Nosode(goat) 30c) can be ordered online from Helios UK. Best for your herd would be to order 40 gr. pills (only 6,85 pounds = about $14.00).
Since these pills (pillules) are No. 6, there are approx. 1000 pills in a 40 gr. bottle. So only one bottle will suffice for your herd.
