Well Clark's observation cannot be absolutley ruled out. However I am of the opinion that the physiology of human endocrine system is quite different from that of birds. Observations of; and experiments on animals and birds can only provide some ground for the prospective researches. The examples widely scattered around us are there to trigger our interest with a fair possibility of good results, many a times the results are extremely salutary. Homeopathy, even now, is way behind in the domain of research.

I actually thought that what Clarke said was that when birds ate them they lost weight, not stayed lean - more that they emaciated somewhat (proving or poisoning symptom).

I stand corrected.

These are the exact words from Clarke.

Wild pigeons and other birds which eat the berries acquire a highly red colour and lose their fat. This last observation has led to the use of a tincture of Phyt. berries as an anti-fat, and many successful results have been reported. This observation may be taken as the key to one of the great spheres of the action of this remedythe absorption of tissues, especially new growths.

Avoid doing things to others which will make you red when others do it to you.

Still this doesn't prove that berries have anything to do with human fat.
