Homeopathy is a Greek word which means "the
medicine should be similar to the disease"
or, "likes should be cured by likes". It sounds bizarre,
doesn't it? Surely practioners of modern medicine must think so,
because their philosophy, clearly, is to Oppose:
Antibiotics, anti-inflamatories, anti-histamines....
Is there a problem with opposing nasty, horrible symptoms?
1. Well, for one thing, the symptoms are not the problem. There
is another name for symptoms: The Immune System! Call me crazy,
but, I had always heard that the immune system was our friend!
2. It also assumes that these opposite treatments can even do the
job they're being asked to do!
In fact, using an opposite force against a symptom gives relief
only just long enough to make you think you might be on the right
track; but inevitably, when the "anti" drug wears off,
the immune system seems so angry about
being interfered with, it tries twice as hard to put the symptom
out again!
Our bodies are genetically programmed to put out symptoms when
we are sick as a warning that there is a problem, or as an actual
curative response to what is wrong! An illustration of this
would be the nausea that develops after too much alcohol is consumed.
Vomiting cures the whole thing and the person feels well again.
No one would try to oppose this symptom because the symptom itself
cures. It turns out that all symptoms have some purpose, despite
being uncomfortable and often unfathomable. The solution is not
to suppress them, thereby engaging in some kind of war with the
immune system. If you "win", what does that mean?
This immune response is instinctive and persistent in nature as
long as the underlying cause is still there. Consequently, an "anti",
"anitpathic" or opposite treatment would necessitate constant
repetition to beat back this instinctual response. Sooner
or later, the body gives out under such an assault: the liver becomes
overwhelmed, the stomach ulcerates, the kidneys are destroyed....
Why is homeopathy the better choice? Well, just not being toxic
helps, but there's more:
In nature, similars repel, and herein lies the scientific explanation
for homeoapthy! Two similar diseases cannot coexist (come together)
in the same body (this is the vaccination concept, you know!) Homeopathic
remedies are, in reality, "fake diseases"! Hard to comprehend,
I realize! I'll let Dr. Hahnemann, the founder of homeopathy, explain:
"...two fevers cannot exist in the same body at the same time.
There is much similarity between the fevers and coughs of measles
and those of whooping cough. In an epidemic where these two diseases
raged simultaneously, [a noted physician of the time] noticed that
many children who had just had measles remained free from whooping
cough. They would all have remained permanently free of whooping
cough and would have been rendered immune to it by the measles if
whooping cough were not just partly similar to measles, ie, if it
also had a similar skin eruption. ... But when measles meets a disease
that is similar to it in its main symptom--the eruption--it will
undeniably destroy and cure it homeopathically. ... But see what
advantage man has over the chance happenings of crude nature!"
(The Organon of Medicine # 46, 51)
What Hahnemann means by that last remark is that there's no reason
why scientists or physicians should be constrained to wait around
for the unlikely event that some natural contagious disease will
come around to neutralize and cure a patient's sickness! The physician,
he says, should be imitating nature and giving,
with intention, the patient a similar "disease", as his
medicine, to drive out the existing one!
If this sounds odd or reckless, think for a minute how dangerous
our standard Rx drugs are. Think of the side effects, the damage
to the stomach and kidneys and liver of long-term drug use! But
homeopathic remedies are so diluted, that on investigation, they
appear to be "empty" of any substance at all! They are
empty--of physical matter, and so, perfectly safe, but not empty
of energy, the vibration of the original substance--that's
what remains. Yes, this is energy medicine! It seems the body responds
better to doses of energy than doses of substance! So, eventhough
a homeopathic remedy might have been made from a disease-causing
agent, there is absolutely nothing left of it by the time it reaches
you.
So the modern doctor, according to Hahnemann, should be asking
himself, not, "What will stop this symptom?" but rather,
"What in nature would cause this symptom?"
because whatever that is, it can be prepared homeopathically and
administered to repel the disease.
Hahnemann goes on to discuss what happens when an "antipathic"
is given:
"The salient symptoms of a long-standing disease have never
in this world been treated in this palliative, antipathic way without
reappearing in a few hours, often manifestly worse. The orthodox
physician imagines that he can get out of this difficulty by prescribing
a stronger dose of the medicine with each new aggravation. This
produces only another brief hushing up of the symptoms and, from
the need to keep increasing the dose of the palliative, either some
other, even worse complaint, or quite often a condition of complete
incurability, danger to life, even death. It never produces a cure."
(#59-60 The Organon...)
Can anyone deny this is true?
Wouldn't it be better if medicine imitated nature? Wouldn't it
be better to see a homeopath? |
