| Dr. Merizalde presents a values approach
to understanding the homeopathic community, its conflicts and its
integration into the mainstream. A self administered test (see below)
will develop information toward those goals and also provide the
individual with personal insights.
Antecedents:
Since the late 19th century homeopathy started declining, Even
though homeopathic medicine has proven to be a valid paradigm for
healing, it has failed to be accepted by the mainstream medical
establishment and society at large. Yet, it is a method of treatment
which could contribute to the solution of health problems around
the world, especially for the underprivileged populations.
The reason for the lack of acceptance of homeopathic medicine at
large is a complex matter, with scientific, economical, philosophical,
practical, and conflicts of interest, factors. These influence its
degree of adoption of homeopathy as a basic part of the tools for
healing. It is important to find the reason why homeopathy is not
accepted more widely.
Dr. Don Beck, an internationally known psychologist, and colleagues
developed a model, based on Abraham Maslow and Clare Graves that
identifies: “Values”, “Belief” systems,
or levels of psychological existence, which can be identified in
populations and which are the factors present in issues and conflicts
that arise from “diversity”. He used the model in South
Africa to help resolve Apartheid without much bloodshed; he is now
working with Israel and Palestine. (http://www.spiraldynamics.net)
By becoming aware of these differences in belief systems, leaders
can address the complexities of social and political problems, and
reduce human conflict. Dr. Beck and his colleagues have developed
validated tools that are available to map such value/belief systems.
Online PeopleSCAN is a system of evaluation and assessments based
on the underlying codes of human nature and development. It is designed
from a meta-model perspective, and encapsulates the principles and
wisdom from the body of work, known as Spiral Dynamics Integral
(SDi). The scope of this work is the basis for the 'Personal Profiles'
which make up the evaluation and assessments providing insights
and information about the natural processes of the brain, personal
perceptions and individual, existential and adaptational, states.
These states are influenced by the prevailing external life conditions
and the internal capacities that enable them, as well as the ability
to handle different levels of complexity in life.
By finding your own pattern of values and beliefs you can identify
your own dynamics of being, the types and phases of change appropriate
for survival, your readiness for change, and the evolving potential
and priorities in your own development. You may be able to identify
the reason why your practice is not growing, why you feel out of
step with those around you, why some people irritate you so much,
why you feel like you are not all you wish to be.
Even though the information is absolutely confidential, your data
can be added to thousands of other homeopaths and users of homeopathy
to draw the unified picture of the homeopathic community, and that
will help to find ways to unite the community, and develop strategies
to grow and get homeopathy accepted by the general community.
The homeopathic community, by identifying its values and belief
systems (first as individuals and collating that information for
the community) can find the best way to become more united, see
the particular ways in which it contrasts with the general population,
and develop way to have homeopathy become accepted more globally.
Object of the Study:
To explore, define, and clarify factors underlying the lack of
acceptance of homeopathic medicine by the mainstream community.
By determining the particular values and belief systems present
within each of us and the homeopathic community, and in a second
phase of the project, contrast these to the values and belief systems
in the community at large, and in the conventional medical community
in particular, we can design ways to develop as individuals to our
greatest potential and have homeopathy become more accepted globally.
By determining differences in the values and belief systems within
individuals and communities we can further understand the nature
of the conflict and identify ways in which these differences can
be bridged and permit the viable elements of the homeopathic paradigm
to be integrated into mainstream society and medical practices.
Methodology:
We ask homeopathic practitioners and users, and members, of the
major homeopathic organizations in the United States of America,
to access a dedicated website and fill in questionnaires that will
provide the data on values and beliefs. The questionnaires are available
for individual administration through the website: www.onlinepeoplescan.com.
There is a dedicated page named: “American Homeopathic Community,
set up at a significantly discounted price off the normal cost.
There are various profiles available to determine a number of variables.
The profiles that are being used include: The Values Test, the Change
State Indicator, and CultureScan.
The questionnaires can be accessed at: http://www.onlinepeoplescan.net/asoh.asp?id=D82HE4Y95
You can also write in the browser: http://www.onlinepeoplescan.net/asoh.asp
and the system will request the code: D82HE4Y95.
The Values Test : maps the value-systems of individuals according
to various stages, of human development, adaptation, and existence.
(It takes 50-60 minutes to complete)
The Change State Indicator: maps the states of change for value-systems.
Since change occurs naturally for individuals, and groups, to adapt
to changes in the environment, the knowledge of these states is
essential to equip individuals and groups to navigate their own
unique pathway with increased awareness. (10-20 minutes)
The CulturSCANScan Profile: determines the alignment of individuals
with the context in which they operate, with the relative adaptability
and changeability features or both. (20-30 minutes).
The researchers will organize the delivery of the above profiles
using the www.onlinepeoplescan.net system; Participating individuals
can go on-line at their own convenience and fill out the questionnaires.
Cost:
The cost is $8.00, for three profiles (regular cost is $37.50),
per participant. Each participant will get the results, and print,
their individual profiles upon completion. The results can use to
learn more about ourselves, our values and beliefs.
The information can be used in individual sessions with consultants,
or development coaches, certified in Spiral Dynamics, by separate
arrangement from the project. There are printed materials individuals
can read to learn more about the particular components of the tests
and their interpretation.
Data Sorting and Interpretation:
Besides our individual data, for personal use, the information
we gather will be analyzed automatically through especially designed
software. The results will be tabulated and graphed for interpretation.
The results will be disclosed to the homeopathic community as soon
as all the data is collected and analyzed.
The results will help to determine the various values and belief
systems prevalent in the homeopathic community. This knowledge will
help the community to guide initiatives in providing services; further
education of its own community, of potential members, and the community
in general; and plan strategically how to help homeopathy be incorporated
as a legitimate medical treatment into mainstream medicine.
